A Furnace will be needed when Crafting more intermediate items. This guide will teach you How to Build a Furnace and where to find the Resources.
To craft a furnace, you'll need 15 Stones, 20 Wood, and 10 Low Grade Fuel. Stones can be obtained by hacking at lone rock resources, wood can be obtained by hacking at trees, and low grade fuel can be crafted from 2 Animal Fat and 1 Cloth. Animal Fat and Cloth is obtained from hunting the wildlife in Rust. Once you have all of those in your inventory, you can craft a furnace by selecting Furnace and clicking the Craft button in the Crafting menu.
Using a furnace is incredibly simple - much like cooking over a campfire, just drag your wood and ores into the furnace, then hit 'e' to ignite it. You'll net between 4-8 metal fragments from smelting two units of metal ore, and three units of sulfur from each piece of sulfur ore (sulfur can be used to craft gunpowder and explosives). Metal Fragments can be used on their own, or further refined into low-quality metal to piece together firearms and weapon modifications.
